HELPSY PROJECT
For this project, we collaborated with Helpsy, a company dedicated to textile recycling and sustainable solutions for reducing clothing waste. We were given the opportunity to select two garments from their collection and reimagine them, breathing new life into each piece.

FINAL
TWO IN ONE
As I began learning the fundamentals of patterning and garment design, I wanted to challenge myself by creating one unique shirt from two old ones. Both shirts had been sitting in my closet, rarely worn, but I saw an opportunity to transform them into something that reflected my maximalist yet chic style. I hand-stitched my branding onto the new garment and embellished it with buttons from both original shirts. Best of all, no material went to waste!
PROCESS
MORE SUSTAINABLE, MORE UNIQUE
What would you do, If you were given 30 euros? During summer of 2022, I experimented further with my passion for fashion, so I joined a summer course that focused on upcycling garments to reduce clothing contamination. With the money provided by the course, I went to different thrift stores to buy the materials needed to create a garment. After scrolling through bins for several hours, I found a double-sided colored kimono with a flower print. Once I had the fabric, I began to experiment with several ways in which I could transform the kimono. After two days of experimenting, I was finally able to sketch my final idea and bring it to life.
This course not only taught me the basics of sewing and patronage but also how consumers tend to waste clothing that can be transformed into new unique pieces. Moreover, I realized the damage consumers (including myself) create when buying trendy but cheap clothing, instead of long-lasting garments. I loved working in my desired field but at the same time being able to contribute to a better tomorrow.
